Since I have been home….

Posted in Uncategorized on March 20, 2011 by drycreekherbs

Not a lot new. I had lunch with Belinda in Austin before my hair appointment. We are making plans togo toBoston in August for Saint Anthony’s Feast Day and also to take a class in beekeeping. I like my Attention Deficit Disorder medication…not that I am über focused just not twitchy. It is an improvement. I have mostly been working on the MCEC corporate/donor book. I think it is ready to be uploaded and sent off into cyberspace tomorrow. I need to get a hard copy draft fast so I can see what it really looks like. Also I will be letting my Santa Fe Workshop chums and teacher look at it online for their editorial comments. That kind of rattles me.

Disappointment. I am not going to Savannah for a coaching gig next week. Money is so tight now and I am an expense that can be eliminated pretty easily.

Icons 1.jpg Another thing I learned from co-trainer, new chum, Linda in Reno: British sit com series called Doc Martin. I am absolutely 100% addicted. I can’t get enough of it. I watched the first year’s series in two nights on my Ipad…laying in bed chuckling. I am such an Anglophile.

CrepeY Leg Syndrome…I have it.

Posted in Uncategorized on March 14, 2011 by drycreekherbs

I guess it is just all about gravity…I am growing a Karl Malden nose, my ear lobes are 2 inches long, and now my legs are beginning to droop. I must start hanging upside down in the closet like a bat to reverse this dire situation. A very dear older friend, who has since died, used to wear panty hose under her bathing suit. She said it made her legs look prettier and I think she had something there. Since panty hose are almost extinct now I guess I will have to wear leggins’ or Spanx…

I am dropping this line of negative talk. I have too many friends who really are ill so I can’t be silly about floppy legs. Now I am feeling guilty and ashamed. Let me talk about my trip to Reno or did I do that already? Better do a quick check of my journal online. Nope, have not written about Reno. Here goes. I was supposed to coach a new trainer in Nevada…at the last minute she had a family emergency so had to drop out…I offered to drop out too but the office wanted me to go and help the support person as she was going to step in as a trainer and she was new…Linda. By the time I was on the plane the trouble started to escalate. The second trainer, Patsy, couldn’t get there…her flights were cancelled and when she was rerouted she found herself stuck in Arizona. It was a comedy of misadventures…and the bottom line is that I had to be a trainer even though I had never seen the trainer manual till I got there. I could carry on and on but the real happy news is that it turned out quite nicely. Linda and I did a good job and I almost enjoyed it. I did not like the surprise or the anxiety of it all though.

Linda and I enjoyed our time after the training…we took the rental car to Lake Tahoe where there was a lot of snow and a casino to loose $20.00 bucks in really fast at the slots. I just don’t think gambling is fun. Maybe if I won. I tried a machine called Kitty Glitter…The weather was nice in Reno and cold at Tahoe. Pretty, pretty, pretty. Linda and I had a delicious dinner at 201103192018.jpg the 4th Street201103192019.jpg Bistro–I had a Wild Mushroom Tart and also Grilled Niman Ranch Pork Tenderloin with Apple Cider braised Red Cabbage, and White polenta and Grainy Mustard Aîoli with a very tasty new wine–a 2009 l’ Authentique from Sancerre, France. Linda knows wine.

Commentary on casinos. I think they are incredibly depressing. The two we visited were small, dark, smokey, and empty. I used the ATM machine in one and almost got stuck with a $14.99 usage fee! Fortunately, the book keeper in the ‘cage’ voided the ticket. Yikes.

Made it home without incident.

A Home Visit, Living in the New Normal (LINN) in Austin

Posted in Uncategorized on March 9, 2011 by drycreekherbs

I am just back from a visit with Mom et all in San Antonio. I stayed three night which pleased her enormously. I am a schmuck for not going more often or staying longer. I had some work to do so I spent some time at a local library…very cool library shared with the high school. So it is a school facility until 4:30 then it is public. I think that is a good use of taxpayers’ money or is monies? Anyway, I did get to work with deep focus at the library on the MCEC book. It is driving me nuts and I can’t wait until it is finished. IF I do another one I will have a well-defined work flow that I did not have this time.

So what else? Not much really. I came back north to Austin where I did some coaching for a LINN training. Karol, is not really a new trainer but I had not observed her and I was able to work on the book when she wasn’t teaching. She is great, of course. After the training on Tuesday I did a nice little 3 mile walk up and down Congress. I like Austin. I think I could see me living there. Belinda and I me up after her work on Monday and had a fun dinner at the East Side Cafe…we love their decorator, free range chickens. I had deeeelicious Mushroom Crepes. We agreed on a good flight to San Miguel so I purchased the tickets…I love to think about us volunteering at their International Chamber Music Festival….oh, we will be shinin’ Tickets are purchased so we are getting in the zone.

I like the Austin art photos…one a side of a building and the other a very cool Austin Food Truck…very arty i think.

OMG I Better Send a Personal Note of Apology

Posted in Uncategorized on March 6, 2011 by drycreekherbs

More on the title in a little bit…first to list things done recently because it makes me feel like I am still a productive member of society. Sort of.

I set out for the south on Friday with a hefty list of errands which I loooooove. Nothing makes me feel more like I am getting something off the list so I can add something else then when it is all said and done, maybe there will be some kind of award given at the end of life for mileage. It is a thought. I might be in the upper 45% bracket. Ok, move on, Susan.

Here is where the personal note of apology comes in. Recently, say the past 3 months, I have noticed a very stinky smell in my living room when I sit on of two places. I get up and do the serious nose-to-cusion whiff test and come up empty….then it occurred to me horrors, one of the cats has urinated on the lovely carpet….but I can’t bend over that far to tell for sure….So, Len agrees to help me pull it up and get it cleaned no matter what. We pull it up, flip it over and there are two very large spots on the back…no cat could ever produce that much urine. OMG. I bet people talk about me. I am MORTIFIED. So where did the spots come from? I can only surmise that from the late, great Abbey who died 5 years ago!!!!! Is there anything I can say? I really am mortified. I don’t know of any other dog who has been in the house.

Back to errands…it all ties together here in a minute. I do a quick consult with, “Eddieisready”, hair stylist, dress consultant, interior designer, and all-knowing where-to-go-in-Austin friend. He sends me, no kidding, to Deep Eddy’s rug and carpet cleaning…and only in Austin would this multigenerational business tout a one of a kind process for the entire US and they only use rainwater….very green. So, I had a long ride to Austin with the windows down in the car and Febreeze sprayed every 5 miles….I get it to Deep Eddy’s and I am nearly nauseous…they help me get it out and after calculations determine it will only cost $191.00 which I think is a verrrrrrry good deal. As I am leaving the cute owner and I walk into the processing center together. I ask if I can look around and he says not only yes, but gives me a little tour. Ok, ok. I tell him about my carpet and he checks it out, lifting it up and whew, a surge of blinding odor wafts out. Both of us blot our eyes….he said, well, nothing can guarantee that odor can be eliminated unless you go for the 24 hour disinfectant soak….I had to agree….can’t keep that nasty thing in the house. So after recalculations the cost is $695.00! Damn. I know it will be worth it if it really gets the worse-than-skunk odor out.

After that it was a slippery slope…I had lunch with Belinda at the Roaring Fork on Congress where we shared a free Austin style crab cake….very tasty…made with whole kernel corn and jalapeno pepper . Free, because I am a full-fledged, card carrying, Frequent Eater and one of maybe 17 in the US who actually read their newsletter and saw the offer. Enough of the mind numbing details, we had a grrrrrrreat visit. We were both inspired to go forth and conquer. I just read the following on Taylor’s blog.

I like this. Go Willie!

Whatever you can do

or dream you can

begin it

Boldness has genius

and magic in it.

Wilhelm von Goethe

After lunch, I went to get Len a new bicycle basket for his new in-town bike, I like to think of it as a town car or a coupe. He needs it for his next TDY trip. From there to a consignment shop to drop of Len’s 16 Tommy Bahama shirts that I am determined to sell, then on to San Antonio. It was a high rollin’, frisky morning but ended in a long dreary ride. Can’t have it all, I guess! IMG_0921.jpg And you cannot have enough hats, either….and speaking of, my order of 12 hats from the Atlanta Apparel market came in. I loooooove them all…but where can I wear them? Who says, I’m excessive and/or dramatic?

New Desk Chair to Improve Balance

Posted in Uncategorized on March 2, 2011 by drycreekherbs

Many of the gals at MCEC are sitting on giant Pilate balls instead of desk chairs. So I got one too. It is supposed to develop your core. For sure it has to improve balance and it is one heck of a lot more comfortable. It makes me sit up straighter too. I try to do other bending and stretching while I am working on my computer. It makes me feel somehow righteous…although it is a bad look from the rear, I admit it.IMG_0920.jpg
